CURRENT REGULATORY ISSUES IN THE FINANCIAL SERVICES INDUSTRY: Discussion of current developments in law related to financial services in the UK as well as the banking crisis with an emphasis on the recent Icelandic situation.
DISPUTE RESOLUTION IN EMERGING MARKETS: Discussion of current best practice in resolving disputes in emerging markets, including China, India and Russia.
10 VAT ISSUES YOU SHOULD NEVER MISS: Speaker will give an overview of mistakes frequently made in dealing with VAT.
UK/US EXTRADITION – A SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP: Developments and case law in UK/US extradition under the Extradition Act 2003 including: reciprocity; the 2003 treaty; corporate fraud and price fixing; forum; human rights; abuse of process.
REACH IMPLEMENTATION: NO DATA, NO MARKET: After a short introduction to REACH (an acronym for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) the presenter will highlight the various strategic aspects of REACH.
INTERNATIONAL TRIBUNALS: The session will consider the role and track record of international tribunals, including issues relating to human rights, due process and international participation. Speakers will also discuss the role of the victim and alternate post conflict mechanisms, such as the truth and reconciliation commissions, and issues related to a competent and independent international criminal judiciary.
LEGAL ETHICS & PROFESSIONALISM: Whose rules apply? Professional practice in cross border transactions and in-house privilege. Presenters will lead a discussion of two hypotheticals: (a) Settlement negotiations; and (b) Bits from a transaction. This will be a 3-hour interactive program designed to meet the Ethics and Professionalismrequirements of CA, NY and all other US MCLE jurisdictions.
BIAS IN THE LEGAL PROFESSION: Lesbian, gay and bisexual inclusion in the legal workplace: issues, challenges and progress.This 1-hour program will meet the Elimination of Bias approval criteria for CA and MN.
